Reflections from the Preacherman

Give thanks, it could have been worse.

December 14, 2007 Leon Atkins 5 Comments

Today was my turn to take our daughter to school. The drive to our destination was uneventful, however on my way back, I heard that dreaded “hissing” sound, yes one of the front tires went flat. Before I even pulled the car to the side of the road, I started to complain (sounds familiar). Continue reading Give thanks, it could have been worse. →

Reflections from the Preacherman

Is God’s Word in your heart?

December 11, 2007 Leon Atkins Leave a comment

Psalm 119 v 11 – Thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee.

Is God’s word in your heart? If it is, you will have less of an appetite for sin, however if it isn’t, your desire will be to satisfy your carnal cravings.  Continue reading Is God’s Word in your heart? →

The Gospel of Christ

Romans 1:16 (AMP)

[16] For I am not ashamed of the Gospel (good news) of Christ, for it is God's power working unto salvation [for deliverance from eternal death] to everyone who believes with a personal trust and a confident surrender and firm reliance, to the Jew first and also to the Greek,

All have sinned … but

Romans 3:20-23 (AMP)
[20] For no person will be justified (made righteous, acquitted, and judged acceptable) in His sight by observing the works prescribed by the Law. For [the real function of] the Law is to make men recognize and be conscious of sin [*not mere perception, but an acquaintance with sin which works toward repentance, faith, and holy character].[21] But now the righteousness of God has been revealed independently and altogether apart from the Law, although actually it is attested by the Law and the Prophets,[22] Namely, the righteousness of God which comes by believing with personal trust and confident reliance on Jesus Christ (the Messiah). [And it is meant] for all who believe. For there is no distinction,[23] Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory *which God bestows and receives.

Jesus Came to Save

John 3:16 to 18 (CJB)
[16] “For God so loved the world that he gave his only and unique Son, so that everyone who trusts in him may have eternal life, instead of being utterly destroyed. [17] For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but rather so that through him, the world might be saved. [18] Those who trust in him are not judged; those who do not trust have been judged already, in that they have not trusted in the one who is God's only and unique Son.
