About

The Portmore Lane Covenant Community Church (PLCCC),  is one of a group of churches born out of the original Covenant Community Church (97 Old Hope Road, Kingston 6, Jamaica) in May 1991. We are a product of the Deeper Life/ Charismatic Renewal Movement of the 1970’s and early 1980’s, which has produced several charismatic churches in Jamaica since the 1980’s.

CALLED AND COMMISSIONED:

We regard ourselves as an integral part of the Body of Christ, a Bible-believing Holy Spirit-led, Christian church, in healthy relationships with other local churches and with a clear mandate to ”evangelize the lost and church the unchurched” in our local communities, and beyond.

It is our objective to be, not just relevant in our time, but to become a revolutionary agency for the proclamation of the Kingdom of God. We, like Paul, believe that our message and preaching should not be merely wise and persuasive words, ”but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power” (1 Cor. 2: 4-5).

Statement of Faith

We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons; the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory: that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all.

We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His Virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teaching, His ‘substitutionary’ atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, and imminent return to earth.

We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower for ministry all who believe in Jesus Christ.

We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and that He is an abiding helper, teacher, and guide.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and in the exercise of all the Biblical gifts of the Spirit.

We believe  that all men are sinners by nature and choice and are therefore under condemnation; that God regenerates by the Holy Spirit those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord, and baptizes the seeking believer with the Holy Spirit and power for service.

We believe  that the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, fully inspired without error in the original manuscripts, and the infallible rule of faith and practice.

We believe  in the Lord’s second coming and that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ; that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation; that the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provided healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer; and that the baptism of the Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:1-4, is given to believers who ask for it.
